Steps for replacing bricks with hand tools:
Chisel out existing mortar to approximately 3/4 ”. Start with all the head joints before moving on to the bed joints.
Clean up any excess mortar with the cleaning tool and brush.
Dip the brush in a little water and moisten the brick.
Put the mortar mixture in a bucket and add water slowly. Mix with the trowel until the mortar has the consistency of oatmeal.
Put a small amount of mortar on the finishing trowel or hawk, whichever is most comfortable for you. Hold the trowel on the joint and then push the mortar in with the flat joint. tools for pointing Be careful not to get any mortar on the face of the brick.
Use the dry brush to clean up excess mortar.
Means
Mark used a ready-mixed mortar, manufactured by SpecMix, in the Moccasin color. This particular mortar was purchased from The Brickyard, Inc, but it should also be available at most local brick factories.
Other tools used for this project, including the masonry hammer, chisel, bucket, trowel, and jointing machines, can be purchased from a home center or masonry supply house.
