As the temperature has begun to steadily rise (too hot in some regions of the country this year), and with lockdown restrictions being eased slightly, it’s natural for many of us to try getting back to the summer party vibes. Remember summer partying from two years ago? Well, here’s how to throw the perfect party that will last all day, and all night.

Water Activities Are A Must In This Summer Heat

People go to summer parties to cool off, both figuratively and literally. Adding some form of water activity such as a swimming pool will give people the chance to dip their bodies in cool water. If you don’t have a swimming pool, a portable hot tub without the heating element turned on is a cheap alternative that you can install the day before. Some expensive models even come with the option to cool the water, but adding a block of ice to the water every so often should suffice.

Barbeque Is The Official Summer Food

There should always be plenty of food at a party – enough for everyone to have second and then some. If you’re concerned about the expense, you can always ask guests to bring some of their own food – a potluck is nothing new. If you don’t actually own a barbeque, consider building a small one – or ask if anyone can lend one for the day. Even if you aren’t the grill master, there’s bound to be someone in your guestlist who knows their way around the barbeque. If all else fails, you could always order in the barbeque and bring your own sides.

People Get Thirsty In The Summer

Freeze bottles of water ahead of time, use the frozen bottles to keep drinks cold. You can also mix up trendy or traditional summertime drinks like lemonade and ice tea. If your guest list wants adult beverages, mix up margaritas, sangria, and spike your other drinks if you want to. Beer is for college kids, but it’s good to have a few options as well.

Don’t Overcrowd The Party

It’s understandable to want to invite your entire contact list because you want to have fun with everyone you know. However, be realistic about the space you have the number of people that can realistically enjoy their time together. Unless you have a huge house, don’t make it an open invitation for anyone to bring their friends.

Avoid Overly Organizing Your Party

It’s always good to have some sense of organization, like having a rough estimate of how many people to expect so you can arrange for enough food and drinks. However, some people like to plan out every minute of the party, which can feel like a chore for guests. Allow everyone the freedom to mingle and have fun at their own pace. They can eat whenever they feel hungry, and there should be as few formalities as possible. It’s a party, not a conference – so people want to kick back and relax. They don’t want to be told when and how to have fun.
