Getting married and having the perfect wedding is often a dream come true. However, it is important to remember that wedding planning takes time, effort, and energy. All of these three key elements may be difficult to find and fit in – especially when you are a busy parent looking after children. Having the wedding of your dreams when you are busy can be achievable. However, you will have to start focusing your efforts right now.

Giving Yourself Enough Time

Time can be your friend, or it can be your enemy. When you are a busy parent, you will already find that your time is stretched. Making it stretch even further might feel impossible, but with some careful planning, it is realistic. Trying to find blocks within your day (or week) is what you should be focusing on. Getting 10 minutes here or there might not sound like a lot, but it is enough to start researching venues or even contacting potential suppliers. Small-time periods and blocks can be just as productive as full days, so make the best use of the time that you can, and don’t try to cram everything in at the last minute.

Switch Off From the Distractions

Distractions are everywhere, and when you are trying to plan your dream wedding, you need to try and turn off the distractions – even if only for a few minutes. Giving yourself distraction-free time to focus and gain clarity is essential. Some of your best planning and preparation work can be done when you jump off the computer or off social media.

Source Suppliers and Providers in Advance of the Big Day

The more time you have to source suppliers and providers then, the more organized you will be and, of course, the less stress you will face. Providers and suppliers get booked up very quickly, especially in the run-up to wedding seasons. Getting your wedding disco hire booked as early as possible and even getting other providers and suppliers booked in, such as florists and make-up artists, are essential. If you leave things until the last minute, you will find that you may have to compromise or settle with something that you are less than happy with.

Getting Support From Friends and Family

Planning a whole wedding by yourself can be challenging, even if you have experience in planning parties and other events. Utilizing the support of your family and friends is important. They may not be able to help you source suppliers or providers, but they may be able to take the children for an hour so that you can carry on with planning. Focusing on delegation when you are planning a wedding is important. You are not alone in the process, and quite often, you will find that the more support and assistance you get (at all stages) will allow you to enjoy the whole process that little bit more. You deserve to actually look forward to the wedding that you have planned, so don’t be afraid to delegate roles and responsibilities.
