You must have heard a lot about Shilajit capsules. In fact, in all the ayurvedic medicines, you must have seen one common ingredient that is shilajit? Haven’t you wondered what’s so good about it? You must have, that’s why this blog has been jotted down just for you!

Let’s begin with what shilajit capsules exactly are-

What is shilajit?

Shilajit is a black, tar-like, sticky substance found essentially in the Himalayas. It takes a lot of time to develop from the slow decomposition of various plants.

Most commonly, it is used in ayurvedic medicines. It is a safe and effective supplement that offers plenty of positive effects on your wellbeing and overall health.

Shilajit capsules improve your memory and immunity.

Dosage of Shilajit

Shilajit is generally available in two forms – powder and liquid. Make sure to use it as directed (after checking out all the instructions).

If you purchase its liquid form, then dissolve the portion in size of rice or pea or grain in the liquid and then drink it 1-3 times every day (according to the instructions).

As an alternative, you can consume the powdered form of shilajit two times a day with milk. The generally recommended dose of Shilajit is 300-500mg per day. Most importantly, make sure to consider the advice of your doctor before taking it.

Health Benefits of Shilajit

Following are the key benefits of Shilajit:

1. Alzheimer’s disease

Alzheimer’s is a brain disorder that leads to certain issues with your behaviour, thinking, and memory. Various drug treatments are there to treat Alzheimer’s.

However, based on the molecular structure of shilajit, many researchers believe that shilajit can prevent the progression of the disease.

The basic component of shilajit is an antioxidant which is known as fulvic acid. This strong antioxidant contributes to cognitive health by stopping the accumulation of the protein called tau. Tau proteins are a key part of the nervous system, however, a buildup of these proteins can activate brain cell damage.

So many researchers think that the presence of fulvic acid in shilajit can put a full stop to the unusual spread of tau protein and lessen the inflammation, improving the symptoms of Alzheimer’s.

2. Low Levels of  Testosterone

Testosterone is the main sex hormone in men, but some males have lower levels of testosterone than others. Some of the signs of low levels of testosterone are:

  • Hair loss
  • Low sex drive
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle mass loss
  • More body fat

According to one study, males with low testosterone levels in the age group 45-55 were divided into two groups, half of them were given a placebo, and half of them were given shilajit, 250 mg dose of each two times a day.

After a dosage of ninety days, it has been proved that the males who consumed shilajit had higher levels of testosterone than the males who were given a placebo.

3. Ageing

Shilajit contains a substantial amount of fulvic acid and antioxidants. So it may also offer protection against cellular damage and free radicals.

As a consequence, routine usage of Shilajit can also contribute to a steady ageing process, longevity, and great overall health.

4. Infertility

Shilajit is also considered a safe supplement for improving fertility in males. According to one research, a group of 80 infertile males took Shilajit two times a day for 90 days after lunch.

At the end of the dosage period, about 60% and more males showed increased sperm count. Not only this but also more than 12% of males have a rise in sperm motility. Sperm motility means the ability of sperm to move appropriately which is a significant part of fertility.

5. Heart health

Shilajit also improves the health of your heart. A few researchers have tested the cardiac performance of the medicine on lab rats.

After receiving a prior treatment of Shilajit, some of the rats were injected with isoproterenol to cause the heart injury. The study revealed that the rats who were given shilajit capsules before injury had fewer cardiac lesions.

So, it is advised not to take Shilajit capsules if you are a heart patient.

Side Effects Of Shilajit

Though shilajit is safe and natural, you shouldn’t consume it raw. The reason behind this is, it might contain fungus, free radicals, heavy metal ions, and other such contaminants that can make you sick. Whether you buy shilajit capsules online or from a health store, make sure to check if it’s purified or not.

As Shilajit is herbal medicine, that’s why it isn’t monitored for purity, strength, and quality. To stay on the safer side, check all the available options carefully before buying and make sure to buy from a well-known and reputed place.

Also, refrain from taking Shilajit if you have hemochromatosis, sickle cell anaemia, or thalassemia. You may likely get some allergies. Moreover, stop taking it if you feel increased heart rate, rash, or dizziness.
