7 Face Care Routine for Your Oily Skin

You’ll find people with oily skin always complaining about the greasy texture and of course the frequent acne breakouts. A lot of people face increasing sebum production in the summer. Although this is a common skin concern, it has a solution.

If you have naturally oily skin or it has become oily because of the weather, you can treat your skin with the right skin products to experience clear skin.

To begin, all you need to do is to follow a specified skin-care routine as given:

1. Start with a Cleanser

Cleansing is a very important step recommended for every skin type. For the ones with oily skin, this is more important as it prevents the oil from accumulating on the face.  

So, try to cleanse their skin thoroughly at least in the morning and at night. Make sure you don’t miss the morning cleansing as your skin sheds skin cells and produces oil at night.

A good cleanser will remove the excessive oil and dead skin. This will also prevent the clogging of pores.

2. Next comes Toner

After you have cleansed your skin and it is free from dirt, oil, and makeup, then it is advisable to use toners containing salicylic acid, glycolic acid, or lactic acid for people with oily skin.

Choose a toner that can balance the moisture in your skin. If you have problems like pigmentation or irritation, you can look for a toner that helps to treat your other skin problems too.

3. Third is Moisturizer

People believe that oily skins do not require moisturizing. However, this is a myth. Moisturizers help to seal all the nutrients in the skin.

Certainly, the type of moisturizer recommended depends on the skin type. For oily skin, use lightweight, oil-free, and water-based moisturizers to prevent clogging of pores. For oily skin, buy a skin care spray to prevent clogging of pores.

4. Don’t forget Serums/Essences

The serums or essences are a part of the targeted treatment. This means its usage depends on the type of your problem.

For instance, go for a hydrating treatment when you feel your skin is dehydrated. Go for anti-aging treatment to get rid of wrinkles or fine lines. Use a brightening treatment to brighten your skin.

For all such problems, different products are available over-the-counter and on the basis of doctor’s advice. Choose the most suitable product for your skincare routine.

5. Apply a Sunscreen

Sunscreen cannot be a miss in your morning skincare regime. Your skin needs protection from UV rays. If you let your skin be exposed to such harmful rays, it will result in premature aging. Choose a sunscreen based on your skin tone but it should have at least SPF 30. You can also use moisturizers with SPF.

But if your BB cream or foundation has SPF and you think that is sufficient, you’re wrong. Your face needs at least ½ a teaspoon of sunscreen. You do not apply that much foundation or BB cream that can prevent your skin from harmful UV rays. 

6. Exfoliate your skin

The problems like dead skin, blackheads, and clogging of pores depend on the type of skin. Usually, oily skin is more prone to such problems. Along with this, your skin also becomes rough and uneven because of the environmental damage. It loses its glow.

To prevent such problems, it is necessary to exfoliate your skin at least 2-3 times in a week with gentle exfoliants. You can also use some chemical exfoliants that can lighten the dark spots and add to the radiance of the skin. Physical exfoliants also provide neat skin texture.

7. Bonus: Sheet masks work!

These can be considered as facials for home. They contain the skin-beneficial nutrients like antioxidants, vitamins, etc. needed for the skin. There are sheet masks available for all skin concerns like hydrating, nourishing, anti-aging, etc.  For best results, use these masks at least once a week.

I know from my personal experience that oily skin is not easy to handle. But with the correct and qualitative skin care products, you can help yourself. Be sure to adhere to your skincare routine inclusive of cleansing, toning, and moisturizing every morning and night for best results.
