Personal boundaries can be open for “importing” when we gladly accept others’ help, resources, time, money, or for “exporting” – our own resources. 

We usually give away what we particularly need, and we export either what we have in abundance or what we hope to get a good price for. In order not to allow others to take advantage of us, that is, to violate our own boundaries, we must be able to say “no” and assert our right to personal space, feelings, and actions, as long as they do not violate the boundaries of others.

2. Spend More Time With Your Family and Friends

The recipe for the happiness of Danes, the happiest people in the world, is quite simple: you should try to maintain a healthy work-life balance. 78% of Danes meet up with friends, family, or colleagues at least once a week outside of work. Meetings with friends are filled with mutual care and peace of mind. It’s a realm of equality: no one pulls focus, no one tries to be the boss. Guests help the host prepare food, set the table, and then put everything in order. In such a relaxed atmosphere, you can completely relax and be yourself. It has a beneficial effect on the physical condition, in particular, it prevents the development of inflammatory processes in the cardiovascular system. Compassion literally heals the heart and makes us happy. It is also contagious.

4. Listen to Your Intuition

Setting goals, big or small, develop a person’s independent thinking, an essential component of a happy life. To get the results you want, you need to make sure your goals are in line with your nature. Dr. Edwin Locke, professor emeritus of psychology at the University of Maryland Business School, states, “People who choose their goals by copying the goals of others can never be truly happy. They are no longer masters of their own lives.”

Setting your own goals allows you to increase your self-esteem, another important component of happiness. Each time you achieve another goal and add it to your list of personal victories, you prove to yourself your ability to achieve what you are striving for. It strengthens your faith in yourself.

6. Answer the Question, “What Am I Living For?

To be happy, you need to update yourself, your values, goals, dreams, and plans more often. Find time to be alone, to reflect, to pray, and to understand once again what you know about yourself and what is important to you at this stage of your life.

7. Give Up on Destructive Relationships

When a person finds an environment that supports their dreams and values, their growth and overall satisfaction with life are greatly increased. Get rid of your interactions with toxic people. You are the one who chooses which people you live your life around. If someone keeps pulling you down, make up your mind, let that person go, and move on. Surround yourself with people who share your values and help you move forward.

8. Take Care of Your Health

Ease up on your workout regimen and don’t overwork yourself. You should have time for rest, work, and active sports that are harmonizing and enjoyable. To find the kind of fitness that will really benefit both body and soul. For example, go for a run alone to clear your mind, or find a stretching studio near your home where you feel aesthetically and physically comfortable.

9. Make Time for Hobbies

A truly harmonious life doesn’t have to be limited to work and family chores. Scientists have proven that hobbies help to overcome sadness and depression, and strengthens our faith in ourselves.

10. Don’t Chase Happiness

The paradox of happiness is that the conscious pursuit of it is fundamentally incompatible with the very nature of happiness. True happiness comes from actions that are valuable to you in and of themselves, not for any external reason-even one as seemingly worthy as the desire to be happy.

Get out into the fresh air. Remember what you can be grateful for from the past day. Do some stretching. Go for a walk. Invite friends over for a visit. Find new meaning in a difficult situation. Happiness is everywhere.
