Come Up with Ideas

The first step in designing your child’s bedroom should be to brainstorm different ideas.

By looking at Pinterest, online, or talking to friends you can gather a lot of inspiration for the bedroom. This part is important because it gives you the chance to see all of the possibilities and find something that your child will love.

Coming up with design tips on your own can be overwhelming when you don’t see them. Take time to talk to your child about what they enjoy in life and use their examples to come up with a theme.

Stay Simple

It is easy to come up with a lot of ideas for your kid’s room, but you must also try to keep the design simple.

When there is too much going on, it can pull away from free space for your child to play in. Another reason you want to keep it simple is so that as they get older, you can easily redecorate and organize items.

Most people recommend having an area for them to play in, sleep in, and store their belongings. As your child grows, their interest will change, so keep this in mind when you are hanging up decorations.

Make It Interactive

Your children’s room should be a place to explore their imagination and interests.

Making the bedroom interactive with certain designs and toys can help keep them away from the screens. A great way to make the space interactive is by putting up glow-in-the-dark stars, a tent, and a fun space for them to relax in.

You can also consider putting up a whiteboard or chalkboard in the room so that they can draw, practice writing, or even play games. Do your best to create fun areas in the room that will keep them busy and having fun.

Emphasize Play

Although the room might look a bit cleaner when the toys are put away, you should always encourage play.

Keeping certain toys out on display can help your child focus on play, rather than sit around bored or on a tablet. Playing is a crucial part of child development, so you shouldn’t hold back.

If you discover that certain toys, however, are pulling them away from going to bed, you might want to tuck those in a safe place. There are many ways to organize a room with toys while still maintaining a clean look.

Incorporate Their Passions

Depending on your child’s interests, you should always incorporate their passions in the bedroom.

Children spend a lot of time in their rooms sleeping and playing. To make this a space that is comfortable for them, you need to include their interests so that they want to be in the room. If possible, talk to your child about what they want in their room or pay attention to things that they are drawn to.

Some kids get interested in space, nature, or animals. These are all elements that you can bring into their room!

Utilize Space Wisely

If you want a happy kid that loves their bedroom, you will also need to consider how you are using your space.

By getting a lofted bed, if your child is old enough, you can double the floor space and give them more areas to play in. A lot of people recommend lofting the bed and putting a desk for crafts and homework underneath. You can also turn the extra space into a fort or play area that they won’t want to leave.

When you have unused corners in a bedroom, you can also develop them into little nooks. Nooks are perfect for any age because they provide a place to sit and read before bed.

Consider Storage

Storage space is just as important as play space in a child’s bedroom.

When designing the bedroom, you should spend time designing a smart closet and storage area. Your kid will be growing out of clothes quickly and need an area to store all of the different sizes along with their shoes.

A great way to save on space is by getting furniture that provides storage space. There are many bed designs that have drawers on the bottom for clothes, toys, and other belongings.

Use Colors & Patterns

Many people are recommending neutral colors to paint your child’s room because they are easier to adapt over time.

Adding a pop of color on an accent wall or utilizing pattern wallpaper can be a great way to keep your child engaged, however. If you are designing a room for a baby, stick with black and white or contrasting colors as their vision develops.

Design the Best Child’s Bedroom

When it comes to decorating a child’s bedroom, there are many things to think about for making it a fun place for them.

It is helpful to stay simple with your design, however,  don’t be afraid of color and patterns. Try creating spaces for your child to play, relax, and unwind in so that all of their needs are met.

Talk to your child and pay attention to their interests. Finding inspiration for the bedroom design is easier when you know what they are looking for.
