Our brains are amazing! They are able to process everything that is going on around us at any given time.

However, sometimes our brain chemicals get thrown off balance and the result is migraine pain.

Do you know if your headaches are tension or sinus migraines? Or do you think you have a migraine with aura?

The first step in treating migraines is knowing the different types of migraines, and only then can you find chronic migraine relief. There are four different migraine types:

1. Tension Headaches

Tension headaches are the most common type of migraine. This form of headache is typically described as “bandlike pressure on both sides of the head, accompanied by tightness in the neck muscles.”

Sometimes people get confused between tension-type headaches and sinus migraines.

2. Sinus Headaches

Sinus headaches are diagnosed when a person feels pain over one or more specific sinuses, rather than around the entire head. They usually occur on just one side of the face.

However, if someone has both tension-type and sinus migraines, they may feel pain all over their head.

Because this type often causes other symptoms such as fatigue and fever, it’s easy to confuse with the flu or common cold.

3. Classic Migraines

Classic migraines are often described as “the worst headache of your life.” The pain is typically throbbing and usually one-sided. Some people also experience nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light, tingling in their arms or legs, visual disturbances (aura), and numbness in their face.

Although classic migraine attacks vary from person to person, this type of migraine typically lasts longer than tension-type headaches do.

4. Atypical Migraines

Atypical migraines are less well known than other types. However, they’re just as common as any other kind. This type of headache is also called “rare” or “uncertain” migraine.

People who experience atypical migraines typically feel less pain than those with other types, and the pain may even occur on both sides of the head.

However, these headaches can be just as severe and intense as any other kind.
