You’re thinking about pursuing a home remodeling project. You have a number of ideas to mull over. At the present time, you’re focusing on the prospect of finishing your attic.

But you’re wondering: what are the benefits? In what ways will a finished attic serve you? There are a number of advantages to having a finished attic, and we’re going to discuss them with you now.

Table of Contents

  • Increased Home Value
  • More Functional Capabilities
  • Easy Work
  • Small Cost Expenditure
  • More Storage Space
  • A More Insulated House
  • A Finished Attic Can Enhance Your Home Substantially

Increased Home Value

In the long run, the biggest benefit of finishing your attic is that it will increase the overall monetary value of your home. This is true for obvious reasons. Namely, your home will have more usable space.

After all, your attic is essentially an additional room and a large room at that. In fact, in most cases, an attic is the size of a single floor of the home. So, if your home possesses one story, and it measures 1,500 square feet, it likely provides 1,500 feet of attic space as well.

Thereby, in finishing your attic, you would essentially be doubling the usable space in your house. As you might expect, this would increase the value of your home substantially. Buyers would be willing to pay much for it, and you would end up getting a lot more money back in the long term.

So, while you will have to spend some money upfront in order to finish your attic, you shouldn’t look at that spending as a loss. You’ll get a large portion of it back at a later date.

More Functional Capabilities

Let’s say you have a 3-bedroom home. At the present time, every bedroom gets used. As such, your home has exhausted all of its functional capabilities.

That is unless you finish your home’s attic. Finishing your attic would provide your home with another large room and, therefore, increased functional capabilities.

You could use your newly finished attic as a recreation room, or a guest room, or an exercise room, or otherwise. You could even turn it into a den or a library. The options are endless!

Easy Work

Though it’s not true in all cases, in many cases, finishing an attic is easy to do. Oftentimes, it just requires the addition of some insulation, some drywall, and some carpet. So, even if you’re not versed in home renovation, you might be able to carry it out yourself.

This is good from a monetary standpoint as well. Not only do you not need to pay someone to finish your attic for you but you don’t have to pay much for materials either.

To get started, consider using this Loft Boarding by Instaloft. This will help to secure the areas within your attic, keeping it safe and warm.

Then, you can pursue the more detailed aspects of the renovation. Not sure how to finish an attic? This guide might be of some use to you.

Small Cost Expenditure

Your attic is already there. You don’t need to build it. You just need to make some changes to it so that it’s safe and comfortable.

Making these changes will almost double the size of your home, and considering that fact, the costs associated with doing so are quite small. It’s certainly much cheaper than adding a completely new room to your house.

So, if you’re lacking in money right now, or if you’re worried about spending a great deal on something that might not be beneficial to you, you shouldn’t worry too much. The costs needed to finish an attic are small in comparison to most other large-scale home improvement projects and you’ll almost certainly end up using your attic for something.

More Storage Space

If you’re like most homeowners, you can never have too much storage space. After all, you’re probably buying new possessions on a regular basis. You can’t just make them disappear when they’re not being used; you need to put them somewhere.

A finished attic would make a perfect “somewhere”. Again, finishing your attic is like doubling the size of your home. Consider the prospect of having an entire home to store your spare possessions in; the benefit is undeniable.

The only other way you could obtain such storage space is by digging a basement or installing a garage . . . or by renting out a storage unit. None of these options is as cheap as finishing your attic.

A More Insulated House

Unfinished attics aren’t just unused space; they’re also liabilities. Why? Because when an attic is unfished and uninsulated, it allows air and moisture to pour into the usable areas of the home below.

Therefore, homes with unfinished attics tend to be draftier and more humid. In many cases, they’re costlier to heat and/or cool as well.

As such, if you want your home to be as comfortable as possible, you would be well served by finishing your attic. It’s a relatively simple project that can make a world of difference when it comes to the atmosphere of your house.

A Finished Attic Can Enhance Your Home Substantially

At the end of the day, a finished attic can enhance your home substantially. Not only can it add much-needed space to your home, but it can also end up increasing the value of your home over time. As such, finishing attic space is one of the best home improvement projects a homeowner can pursue.
